The one I call my favorite skincare ritual.

I’m a huge lover of masks.  I seriously can’t enough of them.  It’s the one skincare product I always find myself purchasing (I have a shelf dedicated to face masks, that’s no joke).  From traditional sheet masks to the popular pre-mixed face masks to the diy dry masks, I (almost) got em all.  And now I’m here to share with y’all a lil Face Mask 101 with tips, tricks, and current faves.

The traditional sheet mask is a classic face mask.  Typically made of cotton or gel, it is power packed and ready to use at any time.  No mixing required.  It is best used for a quick face mask session and is travel friendly.  It really doesn’t get any easier than removing the sheet from the packaging, applying it onto the face, and immediately jumping into relaxation mode.  The best part is that there is no rinsing required.

I love to use a sheet mask on particularly warmer days because I like to place the mask in the fridge while I hop into the shower.  So by the time I’m done and ready to apply the mask onto my face, it provides a cooling sensation on those warm summa days.  It’s a great refreshing way to start off my day and my skincare routine.  If y’all haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it.  🙂

My current favorite sheet masks:

  • ToGoSpa Rejuvenating Green Tea Face
  • 100% Pure Ginseng Collagen Boost Mask

The oh-so-popular already mixed face mask is always a goodie!  The abundance of mixed face masks are endless.  The ingredients vary amongst brands and certain masks target specific skin types.  The consistency range from thick creams to honey like textures to gel like textures.  Again, typically no mixing required (unless it is a concentrated mixed).  It is best used at any time, whether y’all need a quick fix or have hours to spare (like I said, it’s always a goodie).

I love to use already mixed face masks on those lazy typa days.  I typically scoop out 2 spoonfuls of mask and transfer it to my face mask mixing bowl (to prevent contamination).  Then I take my handy dandy fan brush and apply it all over my face.  Depending on the mask type, I leave it on anywhere from 15min to 1hr (or sometimes more).  Then I hop into the shower to rinse off.  🙂

My current favorite mixed masks:

  • Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask
  • Banish Acne Scars Pumpkin Enzyme Masque

The highly praised dry mask is stepping up the face mask game.  The popularity of dry masks are rising at a fast rate.  I’m most particularly fond of dry masks because of they’re versatility.  Typically made with a base of clay and sprinkled with added potent ingredients, dry masks are customizable to target any skin type.  The beauty of these beauts is that the shelf life has increased because they’re technically not “active” face masks.  The only become “active” when a liquid or activator is mixed into the mask to transform it to a thicker consistency or mousse for application.

I love to use dry masks on most face masking days.  I love how I can transform a mask to better suite a particular skin concern.  I activate my dry masks with water or green tea and add a few drops of face oil/serum on my typical face mask sessions.  However, when I need a little more face lovin or I know I have extra time, I bust out the honey to create a thicker paste that would not dry out on my face.  Seriously, the type of activator that can be used is infinite (almost, but more about that in a future post).  So depending on the activator used, again, I would leave it on anywhere from 15min to 1hr.  Then I hop into the shower to rinse off (cause when charcoal is involved, I know I need to rinse off real well).  🙂

My current favorite dry masks:

  • Mahalo Skin Care Pele Mask
  • Simple Soul Restore Clay Mask

So yeah, my love for face masks runs real deep.  For me, it has become my me-time ritual because for some odd reason, no one talks to or bothers me when I got a face mask on (how convenient is that).  But I do love to share my love for face masks with the bf.  🙂  He’s sometimes down for it, which I’ll take anytime.  Couples who mask together, stay together, right?!?

Anyway, I would totally love to hear about y’all opinions on face masking.  What are your favorites?  Got any recommendations?  Tell me!  Remember to always mask with a clean face.  🙂

A lil about the honey mud.  Is it a cleanser or is it a mask?  Well, believe it or not, it does both!!  The raw honey, clay, and lovely blend of oils create a gentle cleansing silk to balance, hydrate, and nourish all skin types.  May Lindstrom says the honey mud will “reveal a calm and balanced complexion that is plush, clear and breathtakingly soft.”

To use as a cleanser, simply massage into warm, damp skin.  With the pads of your fingertips, use circular motions to help remove makeup and buildup.  Then rinse off.

To use as a mask, simple apply into dry, clean skin.  It’s recommended to leave it on for 10-20min.
