The one kit (half) wonder.

Meet Beginning Ritual Discovery Kit from Tatcha.  This kit was my very first (of many) purchase from the luxurious Tatcha.  With a high price point, I decided to opt for the starter kit before attempting to buy the full sized version.  I know y’all are the exact same way.  Cause I surely don’t want to create a bigger hole in my wallet without first knowing if the products are gonna be effective for me.  It’s just a strategy I’ve now employed when I consider buying a new item.  Oh was I glad I got this discovery kit.  🙂

Since, I have oily skin, I purchased that Beginning Ritual Discovery Kit.  If y’all are wondering why I called it the “(half) wonder” kit, it’s because I really truly loved only 2 of 4 products in this kit.  Can you guess which ones (if y’all used this yourselves)?

tatcha_ritual_discovery_kit_cleansing_oilThe first step is the Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, which is a one of a kind cleansing oils (in my opinion).  Mind you, this was my first cleansing oil (and I’m glad it was).  I would have never dreamt of using an oil to clean my face.  True or false:  if you add more oil to an already oily face, it would just make it oilier.  False!  It’s because most likely your face is dehydrated, and thus overproducing oil to compensate.  So using an oil will help balance the oil production to reduce excess oil.  Got it?!?  🙂  Anyway, this was my first cleansing oil.  I loved it from the very start.  I’ve tried other cleansing oils I received samples for, but none of them worked as well as this cleansing oil.  Tatcha says it is “a gentle, two-in-one makeup remover and cleanser that melts away even waterproof makeup, leaving behind purified, silky soft skin.”  I couldn’t agree anymore.  I say this cleansing oil is one of a kind because it applies like a traditional oil, but when activated by a little water, it creates an emulsification that really melts away my makeup.  I don’t need to use a separate eye makeup remover, but I do finish my face wash with a second cleanse.

Full ingredients:  Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Polyglyceryl-10 Dioleate, Polyglyceryl-2 Sesquicaprylate, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Glyceryl Behenate/eicosadioate, Water, Algae Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Glycerin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Alcohol, Fragrance (Natural), Phenoxyethanol.

tatcha_ritual_discovery_kit_enzyme_powderHere comes the second step with the Polished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder.  Another first for me was this cleansing powder/grain.  I just was mesmerized by the idea that a powder can turn into a face cleanser (yes, I was behind in knowing about any sorts of skincare products).  It was love at first use.  Tatcha says it “exfoliates and tones without harsh abrasives for smooth, bright, baby-soft skin.”  I agree.  I’ve read that other found it too harsh for my skin, but I found it to be gentle enough for mine.  I have used the other rice enzyme powders, and this was a favorite along with the Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder (more on a future post).  I actually kept this in the shower.  I didn’t need very much, like a dime size, to lather on my face.  I found that the best way to use this was starting with both a wet face and wet hand (hence why it’s in the shower).  Then rub it together between your hands (add sprinkles of water if needed) to create a lather and massage gently on my face in circular motions.  Every time I used this, my face felt so smooth and soft.

Full ingredients:  Oryza Sativa (rice) Powder, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Potassium Myristate, Cellulose, Papain (papaya Extract), Camellia Sinensis (green Tea) Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata (dokudami) Extract, Oryza Sativa (rice) Bran, Algae Extract, Glycerin, Dextrin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Iron Oxides (cl 77492), Ultramarines, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol.

tatcha_ritual_discovery_kit_brightening_serumThe third step is the Radiant Deep Brightening Serum.  Ohhh, did I want want to love this, but I simply didn’t see any results.  Tatcha says that this brightening serum will “help improve hyper-pigmentation, dark spots and uneven skin tone without whitening skin, resulting in a naturally bright radiance.”  My hyperpigmentation and dark spots didn’t reduce whatsoever.  Maybe it’s because I didn’t give it enough time to work its magic.  It is only a travel size, and I know give a product about 6-8 week trial period before making a beneficial decision.  I’m torn now, if I should give it a second look.  Have y’all used this?  What are your thought?  What are your recommendations?  Should I give it a second look?

Full ingredients:  Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Squalane (Olive Origin), Isocetyl Stearate, Inositol (Rice Extract), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Polyglyceryl-10 Isostearate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Sericin (Silk Extract), Arginine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Sodium Hyaluronate, Zizyphus Jujuba Fruit Extract,Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Sorbitan Stearate, Caprylic/capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenerated Lecithin (Soy Origin), Algae Extract,Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Fragrance (Natural), Phenoxyethanol.

tatcha_ritual_discovery_kit_moisture_silk_creamLast and final step is the Supple Moisture Rich Silk Cream.  I’m neutral about this one to be honest.  Tatcha says it is a “luxurious yet weightless feeling gel-cream of Silk extracts, Squalane, Royal Jelly and our anti-aging HADASEI-3™ Complex.”  Like I’ve said before, I fortunate that signs of mature skin has yet to show on my face, but I didn’t really see any benefits of this cream to my face.  I was moisturizing, but it kinda left me a little more oily within a few hours of use.  Maybe because for the first time, my skin is getting some loving and is adapting to all these changes.  However, I just grown accustomed to face serums and face oils, and face my face is happy with them.  So I’m not so sure if I willing to try a cream just yet.

Full ingredients:  Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isocetyl Stearate, Squalane (Olive Origin), Inositol (Rice Extract), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbitan Stearate, Behenyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Germ Oil, Hydrogenated Lecithin (Soy Origin), Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Batyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Arginine, Bis-behenyl/Isostearyl/Phytosteryl Dimer Dilinoleyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Carbomer, Sericin (Silk Extract), Xanthan Gum, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Royal Jelly Extract, Thymus Serpillum Extract,Algae Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Fragrance (Natural), Phenoxyethanol.

So there you have it.  My two yays are the Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil and Polished Deep Rice Enzyme Powder.  It’s no wonder why they are two of their bestsellers.  I have repurchased the cleansing oil.  Like I mentioned, I have tried the other rice enzyme powders, with the Polished Deep and Indigo Soothing as my two faves of the four types.  However, I’ve actually not repurchased the full sizes of any of these rice enzyme powders.  The price point is just too high, and I have found a cleansing grain that I enjoy using and half the price.  (Don’t worry, I’ll dish all the info on my next post.)  🙂
